The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom (Japanese: ゼルダの伝説ティアーズオブザキングダム) is an open-world action-adventure game developed by Nintendo Planning and Production and published by Nintendo on the Nintendo Switch. It was released on May 12, 2023, and received high praise from the industry after its release, with multiple media outlets giving it a perfect score.

In the sequel to "The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild," Princess Zelda and the knight Link join forces to revive the kingdom of Hyrule. The story begins with their exploration of ancient ruins beneath Hyrule Castle, leading to a confrontation with the malevolent Ganondorf. Ganondorf's resurrection triggers a "Calamity," causing the castle to rise into the sky and posing a crisis for all races.

Upon awakening, Link discovers his arm replaced with that of the ancient hero, King Rhoam. As Link searches for Zelda, he restores the power of the Master Sword and faces Ganondorf alongside her. Zelda, through a time-traveling incident, encounters the kingdom's founders, King Rhoam and Queen Urbosa. Together, they confront Ganondorf, but their efforts result in the "Sealing War," with Rhoam becoming a part of the seal. Zelda transforms into a white dragon, awaiting Link's return.

Returning to the surface, Link rescues champions from four regions, ultimately defeating Ganondorf with his allies beneath the castle. The spirits of Rhoam and Urbosa aid Zelda in returning to her original form, and Link's arm is restored. In the conclusion, King Rhoam bids farewell, promising to protect Zelda and the peace of Hyrule.

The game received overwhelmingly positive reviews after its release, and was widely considered one of the best games of 2023, being nominated for several awards for Game of the Year, only losing out to Baldur's Gate 3 in all of them.
